About Dome Mountain...

Dome Mountain Outfitters is located in the heart of elk country a few miles from the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The Ranch and the "Point of Rocks Lodge" has been a part of hunting and the outdoors for nearly 35 years. A lot has changed and many improvements to the ranch have been made, specifically the lodging and operation. However, one thing that has not changed is the excellent opportunities for elk, mule deer, and black bear hunting and other outdoor activities.

The 5,000 plus private acres of the ranch lies adjacent to the Gallatin National Forest and areas of the Beartooth Wilderness. North of the ranch lies the Dome Mountain Wildlife Refuge area. Fish, Wildlife and Parks purchased these 4,000 acres in order to establish a viable winter range for the resident elk as well as the migrational herds of Yellowstone Park. It is not uncommon to see elk herds in the thousands on and around Dome Mountain during the yearly migration. The northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park is several miles south of Dome Mountain. This 15,000-year-old migration trail continues to be heavily worn by the elk of the park.

AREA 313 is in the Southwest corner of Montana. Historically on average, more elk are harvested in this area than any other in the state. The Ranch's private acreage and neighboring forest service lands provide outstanding habitat for elk, Mule Deer and other wild life. Dome Mountain rises to an elevation near 9,000 feet. Scattered groves of old timber and quaking aspen combined with open sage parks and grassy hillsides afford cover and feed for wildlife as well as various hunting opportunities.

Dome Mountain Lodge at The Point of Rocks serves as the headquarters of operations. Eight rustic cabins complete with electric heat, showers and restrooms as well as small refrigerators offer hunters a relaxing and comfortable stay. The large lodge serves as a gathering place with satellite television, library and more. The historic lodge contains two fireplaces and a wood-burning stove. The welcoming atmosphere emits ghosts of the hunt from days long gone but not forgotten.

Often, elk can be viewed grazing on the open hills and parks of Dome Mountain from the lodge area. A large hot tub offers soothing relief after a hard day in the field. Each cabin offers its own unique and individual character. New log beds and decor add to the flavor of a quality hunt. These cabins are mirrored after Montana style feed shacks. Such buildings were designed with the intention of combining aesthetic value with durability and comfort.

Hunters and guests may enjoy hearty home cooked meals in a family style atmosphere. Seldom will you go away hungry or disappointed. On many evening's, hunters, guides and staff will share the day's adventures and plan for the following days hunt while sitting around a full table of home cooking.

Dome Mountain Lodge offers convenient access off of Route 89 South. Located 31 miles south of Livingston, Montana hunters and guests may find various establishments and attractions less than one half hour away. Yellowstone National Park, the towns of Gardiner and Livingston are just a few locales hunters and guests may wish to visit during their stay.
